Born in Tuktoyaktok in 1951, Fred comes from a family of carvers. He began carving soapstone, whalebone and muskox horn in 1991 and is mostly self taught. When he is not working, or hunting, Fred spends much of his time carving. In 1996 he attended a sculpture symposium in Ottawa.
