I have always been very interested in Aboriginal carvings. Last year I started making Native carvings on an almost full-time bases. In the past I have gone out on the land to hunt moose for their antlers and their meat. After getting the animal and stripping it of its meat, I then have its antlers to work on.
After getting the antlers, I will go out on the land to find a beautiful spot. I will then memorize all of the spot's physical details. Afterwards, I'll begin carving the antlers using my memory as a blueprint.
I'm very proud of my carvings. They take me a great deal of time and effort and I enjoy seeing the finished product. Although I have only been carving for a year, I have already sold two pieces I created to the museum in Norman Wells. I will definitely continue to carve in the future and hope that I can turn this passion of mine into a full-time profession.
